Would
you believe that a small rural town of barely 1,000 would
offer enough dining choices that you could eat somewhere
different every day of the week?
Here
is the line up of Cambridge’s “Restaurant
Row”—
Starting
with Macke’s
Bar at
the corner of Paxton/U.S. 6 & 34, enjoy daily noon lunch
specials and pizza or a burger with your evening cocktails
and a game of pool.
Heading
west just next door, you will find two-in-one—Big
Mama’s Eatery and Big
Papa’s Pizzeria—a
combo that offers something for everyone. Big Mama’s
packs a big sub with plenty of meat and fresh veges on
fresh baked buns. Specials range from Chinese cuisine to
Reuben’s. You’ll find lighter fare in the form
of wraps and salads. Of course, soft serve ice cream, pies,
and other sweets are plentiful. Big Papa’s Pizza
and new pasta’s are favorites.
Another
fun and delicious stop just another two doors west is Cambridge
Lanes where
the super nachos and other fare are local favorites. Enjoy
an adult beverage in this non-smoking bowling alley while
you fine tune your game. A great family hang-out.
Directly
across Patterson (which the locals call “Main”)
you will find Huskerfield’s,
a unique hospitality business located in the only downtown Cambridge “underground”.
Originally a bowling alley, the lower level of this landmark
building hosts special events and serves meals with advance
arrangements.
Next
door to the north, the Cambridge
Senior Center presents
a hearty homemade lunch daily, hosts the Cambridge Rotary
Club at noon Wednesdays,
and offers a tremendous roast beef lunch to the public
on the first Sunday of each month. All are welcome to join
the daily lunch with reduced rates for Senior citizens.
Reservations are appreciated by 9
a.m. for
the daily lunch.
Another
door north you will find the mainstay Town
Talk Restaurant, Lounge & Banquet,
recently expanding both its walls and its menu! The extensive
menu and daily lunch and dinner specials include authentic
Mexican fare on Tuesday evenings, Italian and Pizza on
Thursday evenings, and Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday
evenings. Generous salads are lunchtime favorites or indulge
in a Chicken Fried Steak, Patty Melt, or Hot Beef Sandwich
of yesteryear.
Jumping
a few doors, again, to the north, Shirley
K’s Coffee Shop is
a Cambridge experience
you must take in. Enjoy a jovial atmosphere where the motto “sit
long, talk much” while sipping delicious gourmet
(or regular) coffees, sweet Swirley’s and much more!
Breakfast and lunch favorites like Panini sandwiches, big
Kahouna salads, homemade soups, and Mark Burgers on Fridays
bring very fresh and unique flavors to the local cuisine.
Crossing
Nelson to the Northwest, stop by the Cambridge
Supermarket for Chester’s
Fried Chicken or other to-go items. Take you picnic to McKinley Park or
the Main Street Garden.
Two
blocks to the west the Cambridge
Bed & Breakfast will
start your day with an unforgettable homemade breakfast
served with gracious hospitality. Special events/tours
arranged in advance may include deserts or high tea.
The Cross
Creek Golf Course clubhouse
serves snack items as well as Cambridge
General Store,
and Bailey’s Wine,
Beer, and Liquor.
