Children Thrive
Education is a very strong point for Cambridge. Our great state of Nebraska continually ranks in the top ten nationally for graduation percentage at about 89% of students annually and Cambridge ranks considerably higher than the state average with nearly 100%. The quality of our education is evident in the ACT testing. According to a 2003 national research study, Nebraska ranked first among the 12 states with a high percentage of students (70 percent or more) taking the ACT exam. Maine and Oregon ranked at the top nationally with a 22.6 score, however, fewer students in those states took the ACT. In Maine, 6 percent of the graduates participated and 12 percent in Oregon. Taking this data to the Cambridge level, we have continually ranked higher than the Nebraska average in the ACT scores and have about 10% more students taking the test each year than the state average. This is remarkable! We truly are the best of the best!
We Care about Your Health
The rural region served by the TriValley Health System will enjoy a new facility currently nearing completion. Keeping quality healthcare right here in Cambridge has been a priority of the community for over 50 years. Now, the building of a new hospital will provide space for new and expanded outpatient services; consolidation of Physical Therapy and the Cambridge Clinic into the new building; improvement of OB services; and the development of a common nursing station for centralized management of acute, emergency, and OB services. The overall design will enhance patient privacy and provide expansion opportunities for the future.
Renewable Energy Opportunities
According to a presentation shown by an official with the U.S. Dept of Energy, southwest Nebraska is prime for nearly every form of renewable energy for residential applications or larger scale production projects. You will find potentially prime spots on the wind power map just a few miles south of Cambridge on the high lands between the Republican and Beaver Valleys. Solar power opportunities exist due to our typically clear skies and intense winter sun. The variety of applications of geothermal system opportunities are only limited by one’s imagination. The dam of our Medicine Creek Reservoir may prove an opportunity for a smaller scale hydropower application.
Ethanol Facility
Cambridge celebrates the ethanol plant purchase by Zeeland Farm Services of Michigan. The plant under new ownership now operates as Nebraska Corn Processing, LLC., which restarted operations in early March 2010.
