Huge Internet Capacity
Thanks to the commitment and investment of the leadership at Pinpoint, our ISP headquartered in Cambridge, we have the largest Internet capacity between Omaha, Nebraska and Denver, Colorado. If you can telecommute, this is your perfect hometown. If your technology company is expanding and desires a location that appeals to generation Y, let’s talk. If you have an idea for a start-up business, we want to help you become successful.

More than just the Simple Life
In Cambridge, Nebraska life can be simpler, or it can be just as complicated as city life, it’s up to you. Our small town has something for everyone. Visitors have compared our town and surrounding country setting as “like Tuscany or Provence”, with our local flavor, historic architecture, slower pace, and natural beauty. Our lifestyle centers on family, school, churches, and a variety of recreation.

Children Thrive
Education is a very strong point for Cambridge. Our great state of Nebraska continually ranks in the top ten nationally for graduation percentage at about 89% of students annually and Cambridge ranks considerably higher than the state average with nearly 100%. The quality of our education is evident in the ACT testing. According to a 2003 national research study, Nebraska ranked first among the 12 states with a high percentage of students (70 percent or more) taking the ACT exam. Maine and Oregon ranked at the top nationally with a 22.6 score, however, fewer students in those states took the ACT. In Maine, 6 percent of the graduates participated and 12 percent in Oregon. Taking this data to the Cambridge level, we have continually ranked higher than the Nebraska average in the ACT scores and have about 10% more students taking the test each year than the state average. This is remarkable! We truly are the best of the best!

Smart, Green Growth
We get the Greensburg, Kansas focus on Green. It shouldn’t take a tornado to realize that small rural towns have needed to reinvent themselves for decades. In Cambridge, we have sustained an economy based on many green and smart growth principles for years. First, we have focused on historic preservation, making new uses for old buildings rather than demolishing and building new. Energy-efficiency measures have been motivated by rebates and energy savings. Our park system and other greenspaces throughout the community has reduced any chance of a heat island effect. Our local food service establishments are truly local, independent, mom & pop businesses—reducing the costs associated with transportation in franchised restaurants. Many citizens have their own gardens, bake from scratch, and purchase meats from local farmers. For those who don’t, a farmer’s market was established nearly a decade ago.

Renewable Energy Opportunities
According to a presentation shown by an official with the U.S. Dept of Energy, southwest Nebraska is prime for nearly every form of renewable energy for residential applications or larger scale production projects. You will find potentially prime spots on the wind power map just a few miles south of Cambridge on the high lands between the Republican and Beaver Valleys. Solar power opportunities exist due to our typically clear skies and intense winter sun. The variety of applications of geothermal system opportunities are only limited by one’s imagination. The dam of our Medicine Creek Reservoir may prove an opportunity for a smaller scale hydropower application. It is notable that this spring-fed reservoir has remained at capacity even throughout longer drought periods and has been a big part of the solution for Nebraska’s water lawsuit Kansas.

Ethanol Facility
Although the recently complete ethanol plant is currently reorganizing due to the stress on the industry, it is a state-of-the-art facility with a bright future for economic development, value-added agriculture, and green energy production.

FORBES says Nebraska is 10th Best State for Business
FORBES magazine says Nebraska is one of the 10 best states for business. The state moved up from 17th to 10th in the magazine’s 2008 list. FORBES says Nebraska offers a better quality of life, better regulatory environment, and lower business costs than most states. The magazine’s quality of life index considers cost of living, quality of schools, crime rates, health care, and poverty rates. Nebraska was ranked 9th in quality of life, 12th for its regulatory environment, and 13th in the magazine’s business cost ranking, which includes the cost of labor, energy, and taxes.
